Mara’s journey to Gigong, Sound Therapy, and Andean Medicine

I’m a holistic healing practitioner, and my work is rooted in helping people who are

healing from trauma—whether that trauma reveals itself as addiction, anxiety, depression, or a deep sense of disconnection from self. I draw from ancient healing modalities like Qigong, Andean medicine, Reiki, and sound healing to support the body, mind, and spirit in returning to balance. These practices have had a profound impact on my own life, and it’s an honor to share them with others.

My journey into healing began during a challenging time in my life. While attending

university, I experienced a deep period of depression and anxiety that left me feeling

lost and disconnected. It was then that I was first introduced to mindfulness and yoga- practices that helped me begin to reconnect with myself and find moments of peace.  That spark ignited a passion to explore other ancient healing modalities, each opening new pathways to emotional, physical, and spiritual transformation that I can now share with others on their own healing journeys.

I currently split my time between the U.S. and Italy, and when I’m not working with clients or leading retreats, you can usually find me in nature, cooking something nourishing, or sitting on a park bench with my dog, Ghita.

What is Qigong? Benefits for Physical, Mental & Emotional Health

Qigong is an ancient Chinese healing practice that combines gentle movement, breath work, and focused intention to cultivate and balance the body’s vital life force- known as “Qi.” It’s often described as a “moving meditation”, and its effects are both subtle and profound for short-term and long-term transformation.

On a physical level, Qigong helps to release tension, improve circulation, and support the nervous system. Mentally and emotionally, it creates space to slow down, reconnect with your inner stillness, and process stuck or stagnant energy. With consistent practice, it builds resilience, inner calm, and a deeper sense of harmony between body, mind, and spirit.

This gentle yet powerfully transformative form of energy healing is a cornerstone of my holistic wellness approach, one that I frequently share with my clients and retreat participants as a pathway to lasting balance and healing.

How Mara’s Unique Upbringing Between American and Italian Culture Shaped her Identity and Holistic Healing Journey

Growing up between the U.S. and Italy has given me a unique perspective that deeply

influences both my life and my healing work. From the US, I carry a sense of openness, curiosity, and a drive to explore different paths. From Italy, I’ve learned the beauty of slowness, the importance of connection, and the art of savoring life.

I’m especially drawn to the way Italian culture prioritizes time with loved ones, delicious food made with care, and a strong relationship with the land. Whether it’s long meals around the table, the rhythm of daily rituals, or the simple joy of a walk through the countryside, there’s a deep presence woven into everyday life in Italy that continues to nourish and inspire me on my path.

How to Stay Grounded and Reduce Stress: Simple Mindfulness Tips for Everyday Life and Travel

One of the simplest ways to stay grounded- whether you’re moving through daily life or traveling- is to begin with a gentle check-in with yourself. Just a few moments of quiet presence in the morning can help you tune in to your inner landscape without pressure or urgency.

If possible, step outside or sit by a window to take in some natural morning light—it’s a beautiful way to regulate your nervous system and reset your internal rhythm.

Daily walks and time in nature are essential for me, they help me reconnect to my body and to something bigger than myself.

I also love keeping a journal or an inspiring book nearby, especially when I’m on the go. Writing even a few lines can help declutter the mind, while reading something that nourishes the heart brings a sense of calm and clarity, no matter where you are.

I also pay close attention to how I nourish myself- making sure I’m eating grounding, supportive foods, staying hydrated, and listening to what my body truly needs. For me, self-care isn’t about a rigid routine, it’s about staying connected to what brings me back into balance.

Career Change Advice for Entrepreneurs: How to Follow Your Passion and Find Your Purpose

For anyone dreaming of shifting their path and building a life or career that feels aligned with their soul, start by finding inspiration in the small things. Pay attention to what lights you up, even subtly, and surround yourself with people who are already living in their purpose. Seeing others do what you dream of reminds you that it’s possible for you, too. And don’t underestimate the importance of doing your inner work.

The more you gently peel back the layers, those old stories of not being enough, fears of scarcity, or doubts about moving forward, the more grounded and confident you become. That inner clarity builds the trust and faith you need to take the next right step. Because at the end of the day, that’s really what the journey is- showing up, one step at a time, and continuing to move in the direction of your dream.

Mara’s Favourite Inspirational Read: Tinisima

It’s so hard to choose just one or two favorite books, but one that has stayed with me

over the years is Tinisima by Elena Poniatowska. It’s a beautifully written and deeply

human portrait of Tina Modotti- an Italian photographer, activist, and revolutionary who lived and worked in Mexico, Spain, and the USSR during some of the most turbulent times of the 20th century.

What I love about this book is how raw and real it feels. Tina was incredibly passionate about her beliefs, and she lived boldly, but she was also deeply flawed and complex. The way Poniatowska tells her story- with such nuance and compassion- really moved me. I’ve always been drawn to books that weave together art, history, and personal transformation, especially those rooted in Italian and Latin American cultures. Tinisima brings all of that together in a way that feels both intimate and expansive.
